Nigel writes;
Last night featured MALIE MAE (Aitchison) who I knew would be good as she blew us all away at 229 Great Portland Street a few years ago – but this time, much to my surprise, she turned up with GEORGE HUXTABLE – and they were BRILLIANT ! A great part of live music appreciation, apart from the songs and music, is the way in which the performers interact with each other – and boy, oh boy were these two having fun! The audience LOVED them!
The other acts were a girl called VANESSA VONS with a colossally powerful voice of great clarity who opened her set with a version of JORJA SMITH’s “Teenage Fantasy” followed by four of her original numbers which had the audience watching slack-jawed with admiration. This was her first professional gig which was quite nerve wracking for both her and me!
To add to the mix of varied musical genres, the final act were a band called WEST STREET to which Hannah Durden and Roddy McLauchlan had alerted me. Seriously slick and sassy. Having been trying to emulate the singer’s dance moves, I have now embarked upon a programme of pain killers!
So, onto the next which is on TUESDAY 18 FEBRUARY.
